New photos of the eagerly anticipated “John Wick: Chapter 3” (aka “John Wick 3: Parabellum”) shows new character Sofia (Halle Berry) and her dogs with Wick (Keanu Reeves) in the desert.
This photo indicate her character’s an ally, which Wick sorely needs after getting banned from The Continental in the second film.
“She has a past with John,” Reeves told EW of Berry’s character. “I end up going to find her to see if she can help me.”
But what about those dogs? They’re Belgian Malinois, the same breed favored by Navy SEALs.
“Whereas John’s puppy was symbolic of his wife, Halle’s two dogs are symbolic of someone she’s lost,” director Chad Stahelski told EW. He added that they developed an action sequence around her “canine assistants…. They work very well tactically.” We assume that means they are attack dogs, something we haven’t seen yet in the franchise.
While folks on Twitter were concerned that we don’t see the pit bull that Wick was on the run with in “Chapter 2,” it would be a bit much if the franchise kills of another of our favorite hitman’s dogs! And let it be noted that the dog was absent from much of the second film. Instead of high-tailing it to Italy with Wick, he was being watched by an employee of The Continental. (Dogsitting — and all over Continental services — are probably off the table, but still, we’re sure the dog is fine.)
Also joining the franchise, Mark Dacascos and Asia Kate Dillon, who play characters associated with the criminal council known as the High Table.
And Oscar winner Anjelica Huston plays, according to Stahelski, “someone who was responsible for [Wick’s] upbringing and his protection.”
“John Wick 3: Parabellum” opens May 17, 2019.
