The extended international trailer for the upcoming film “Christopher Robin,” in which a grown-up Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) is reunited with his childhood friends, is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
As a boy, Christopher promised never to forget his friend Pooh, but now, as an overworked adult who doesn’t even have time for his family, he’s clearly forgotten all about his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. Until Pooh turns up in London to ask for Christopher’s help in tracking down his missing friends.
The beloved A.A. Milne characters have the soft, fuzzy look of the original drawings (not the clean lines of the later Disney films), which makes them look that much more cuddly.
The actor voicing Pooh (voiceover vet Jim Cummings) sounds very much like Sterling Holloway, the original voice of Winnie the Pooh.
Eeyore the donkey (Brad Garrett) is suitably depressed, although that voice is going to have to grow on me.
In the trailer, we don’t hear Toby Jones as Owl, but that casting seems perfect.
Here’s the rest of the voice cast:
- Nick Mohammed as Piglet
- Peter Capaldi as Rabbit
- Sophie Okonedo as Kanga
And I hope Piglet clapping enthusiastically will be a gif very soon.
Hayley Atwell (“Agent Carter”) costars as Christopher’s wife, Evelyn.
The film opens August 3.
