Who Voices Who in the New (And Old) ‘Lion King’

The new “Lion King” has an all-new voice cast, except for James Earl Jones, who reprises his role as Mufasa, Simba’s father.

Here’s who voices which character in both the new film and the 1994 version.

SIMBA

As pictured above, singer/actor Donald Glover voices adult Simba. In the 1994 film, Matthew Broderick provided his voice.

NALA

BeyoncĂ© Carter-Knowles is the voice of adult Nala. In the 1994 film, she was voiced by Moira Kelly of “The West Wing” and “The Cutting Edge.”

SCAR

“12 Years a Slave” star Chiwetel Ejiofor voices the villainous Scar. In the 1994 film, Jeremy Irons voiced Simba’s murderous uncle.

SARABI

Afre Woodard voices Simba’s mother Sarabi in the new film. In the 1994 version, she was voiced by Madge Sinclair, who played Queen Aoleon in “Coming to America.”

YOUNG SIMBA AND NALA

JD McCrary of OWN series “The Paynes” voices young Simba. “Us” star Shahadi Wright Joseph voices young Nala. In the 1994 film, they were voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Niketa Calame.

THE HYENAS

Florence Kasumba, who played Ayo in “Black Panther” voices lead hyena Shenzi. Her more comical henchmen, Kamari and Azizi, are voiced by, respectively, Keegan-Michael Key and Eric AndrĂ©. In the 1994 film, Whoopi Goldberg voiced Shenzi, Cheech Marin voiced a hyena named Banzai, and voice actor Jim Cummings (who was the voice of Tigger and Pooh in “Christopher Robin”), voiced Ed the Hyena.

TIMON, PUMBAA and ZAZU

The hilarious meerkat and warthog duo are voiced, respectively, by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen. “Daily Show” alum John Oliver voices red-billed hornbill Zazu. In the original film, Nathan Lane voiced Timon, Ernie Sabella (who teamed again with Lane in “Mousehunt”) voiced Pumbaa, and Rowan Atkinson was Zazu.

RAFIKI

The wise mandrill was voiced by “Benson” star Robert Guillaume in the 1994 film. In the new film, he’s voiced by John Kani, who played T’Chaka in “Black Panther.”

Chance the Rapper (billed as Chance Bennett) voices a Bush Baby

J. Lee of “The Orville” voices an unnamed Hyena
