“A Star is Born” is likely to rack up a lot of awards and, thanks to casting his own dog in the film, director-star Bradley Cooper has already won one from PETA.

The animal organization awarded Cooper its first-ever Compassion in Film Award for casting his dog Charlie, instead of just hiring one through an exhibitor.

“Bradley Cooper’s happy, adorable, and much-loved dog steals the spotlight — and viewers’ hearts — in this film because it’s clear that he loved being with his real-life ‘dad,'” PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said in a statement.

Cooper told People at the film’s premiere, “There was no nepotism — I wanted this relationship with the dog. [Jackson and Ally] don’t have a child together but they have a dog together, and I wanted it to be part of their story. I love dogs.”

Charlie is named for Cooper’s late father, who passed away in 2011. “That meant a lot for him to be in the film,” the actor said.

He joked that since making his film debut, Charlie “has an agent. I don’t talk to him much anymore. He doesn’t return my calls. He always walks away from me unless I have food.”

Charlie has his fans on Twitter as well, with one critic saying, “Charlie the dog steals the entire movie. I want a canine Oscar for him!”

There is no such thing, of course, but he is eligible for the Golden Collar awards, previously given to such canine stars as Uggie from “The Artist.”

The chihuahua from Italian drama “Dogman” snapped up Cannes’s Palm Dog award this year.
