Glenn Close won Best Actress at the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday, but her dog Pip was the real star of the show.

Close told Variety that she brought him to the awards show held at the beach in Santa Monica because she couldn’t find anyone to sit him! And, as she explained, he’s done red carpets before and is “incredibly well behaved.”

When she was announced as Best Actress for her performance in “The Wife,” Pip joined her on stage. He stared at her adoringly, but couldn’t resist a playful roll that completely distracted her and delighted the audience.

And yes, Pip (who’s a Havanese) has his own Instagram account, where he’s known as Sir Pippin of Beanfield. As his IG states, “Only son of @glennclose Excellent nose. International traveler. Student of the human condition. Fetch artist and mini-ball catcher extraordinaire!” There’s even a video of Pip as a puppy when she first got him.

Close is also up for Best Actress at the Oscars on Sunday, but it seems unlikely she’d bring Pip to the much more formal event. (Note: We here at Moviepaws are available for dog sitting!)

Also nominated for a Best Actress Oscar this year is “The Favourite”‘s Olivia Colman (who plays bunny-loving Queen Anne). As we recently learned when she appeared as a guest on David Tennant’s podcast, her dog (who accompanied her to the recording) has a similarly grand name: Alfred, Lord Waggyson.

Best of luck to both actresses. And may we suggest a playdate where Sir Pippin and Lord Waggyson meet?
