We were already eager for Patrick Stewart to return as Jean-Luc Picard, but now that he’s got a dog with him, we’re even more excited.

Today at Comic-Con, Stewart revealed that the dog’s name is, of course, Number 1! And he regretted he hadn’t brought the dog with him to San Diego.

We don’t know anything else about the pit bull, or whether it will accompany the Captain back into space or remain safely at the vineyard we see in the trailer.

As for the original Number 1, we will see the return of Will Riker in a few episodes, and Jonathan Frakes will direct a few episodes. Also returning; Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan and Jonathan Del Arcoy. Also look for Marina Sirtis to guest star.

Of course, Stewart is a big pit bull fan in real life and frequently fosters dogs for LA-based rescue Walks and Wags.

Please meet our new foster dog, Leonard. “Lenny” for short. He is a gentle gentleman, and @madameozell and I are smitten already. At roughly ten years of age, Leonard is our first “senior” foster. We know very little about his life, except that it was one full of neglect. “Star Trek: Picard” will premiere in early 2020 on CBS All Access in the United States and on Amazon Prime in the rest of the world.
