‘Cocaine Bear’ Trailer Is Pure Cinematic Crack

A wild bear ingests 70 lbs of cocaine and goes on an epic rampage in the first trailer for “Cocaine Bear,” which is, believe it or not, based on a true story.

The trailer is full-on grizzly gone gonzo. We see the bear snort the drugs, the unfortunate humans who cross its path and revel in the in-your-face ’80s-ness of it all.

How true is the film to the real story? Not very. A bear did ingest millions of dollars worth of cocaine in 1985, when the movie is set, but it did not, by all accounts, go on a bloody rampage. The cocaine “heist” was only discovered after the bear was found dead, according to EW.

But that doesn’t stop the film, which is written by Jimmy Warden (“The Babysitter”) and directed by Elizabeth Banks (“Charlie’s Angels”), from capitalizing on the incredibly rich premise.

The lead character, for what it’s worth, appears to be entirely CGI.

It stars Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenrich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Margo Martindale, Scott Seiss, and Ray Liotta (in his final role).

The movie hits theaters on February 24, 2023.
